Michael Oher, a former football player who you might have heard about from the movie “The Blind Side” is currently indulging in an intense legal battle with his own family. Oher recently filed a petition against the Tuohy family who adopted him and helped him succeed in his football career.
The former NFL offensive lineman filed a petition in a Tennessee court to end the family’s conservatorship claiming that the family used his conservatorship for their benefit. However, the recent discovery in the case has revealed that the 37-year-old has made up this story and this petition has a hidden agenda.
Michael Oher faces alleged $15,000,000 accusations before Tuohy Family lawsuit
Michael Oher claims that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy made him sign the conservatorship papers when he was 18 and then used him to make money. He stated that the family didn’t adopt him, it was just limited to the paperwork, and they made millions off the movie (The Blind Side) based off of him.
However, the Tuohy family’s attorney Marty Singer has revealed that Oher asked for $15,000,000 from the Tuohy family and threatened them that if they’ll not pay him the money, he’ll spread negative stories about them on the Internet.
The attorney also denied all the claims of the former NFL player and explained that the family didn’t trick him, but rather paid for his health insurance and college admissions.
“The conservatorship was established to assist with Mr. Oher’s needs, ranging from getting him health insurance and obtaining a driver’s license to helping with college admissions.”
Singer stated that if Michael Oher is willing to end this conservatorship the Tuohy family won’t disagree. He also clarified that the family didn’t use the former NFL player to make money. He mentioned that the couple has millions, so why would they use someone whom they love as their son for some thousand dollars?
However, the family did get a check as advance from the production company and it was given to Oher. Singer claimed that even after he asked for money ($15 Million), the Tuohy couple sent his share into a trust account that was set up for him.
“They still deposited Mr. Oher’s equal share into a trust account they set up for his son.”
