The NBA announced on Friday that Dillon Brooks, the shooting guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, has been hit with a $35,000 fine for shoving a cameraman during a recent game against the Miami Heat.
The incident occurred in the second quarter of the game when Brooks attempted a three-pointer but missed. He then became frustrated when a camera operator got in his way, so he pushed him to the ground. Although the cameraman wasn’t injured, the NBA decided to fine Brooks for his unsportsmanlike conduct.

Brooks seems to be making headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. Just a few weeks ago, he was suspended without pay for one game after receiving his 16th technical foul of the season. NBA rules dictate that players who accumulate 16 technical fouls will be automatically suspended for a game. Moreover, players receive a one-game suspension for every two technical fouls they earn after that.
Brooks is currently leading the league in technical fouls. Fans may also remember his recent altercation with the Golden State Warriors Draymond Green. It seems like there is no end to the controversy surrounding Brooks.
What’s wrong with Dillon Brooks?
At 27 years old, Brooks is easily one of the most controversial players in the NBA. He is a tough defender with a brash mouth and has endeared himself to the Grizzlies’ fans. However, it’s safe to say that Memphis is the only place where Brooks is well-liked. His latest error in judgment will only serve to solidify his reputation as a problematic player.
Brooks’ incident with the cameraman occurred in the second quarter with less than three minutes remaining. John Konchar claimed the offensive rebound but lost his balance and could only toss the ball back into play. Brooks, who had been chasing the ball, failed to catch it and took out his frustration on the camera operator. Although he wasn’t penalized for his actions during the game, the NBA’s decision to fine him shows that the league takes unsportsmanlike conduct seriously.
It’s unclear whether Brooks will learn from his mistakes and clean up his act. He seems to have a penchant for getting into trouble, and his latest fine only adds to his growing list of infractions. As one of the league’s most controversial players, Brooks has much to prove if he wants to be taken seriously as a professional athlete. However, if he continues to behave inappropriately, he may find himself out of the job sooner rather than later.
