“It’s definitely something that we’re looking into” Francis Ngannou hints summer bout vs Tyson Fury with Mike Tyson as ref

Francis Ngannou was in talks with the UFC for a very long time after his fight against Cyril Gane on UFC 270. Dana claimed to have offered the Cameroonian an offer that would make him the highest-paid Heavyweight in the history of UFC.

Ultimately the champion left the organization and now talks for Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury have surfaced again.

The African prodigy recently discussed the fight, “I’ve talked to somebody, some of [Tyson Fury’s] advisors, but they’re working on a fight with [Oleksandr] Usyk in April. So, until then, he will not be free. But I’m trying to see if we can have an agreement before that fight.”

“That will also give me some time to get prepared for a boxing fight. So I have no problem with the timeline that I’m expecting, that I hope will be sometime in June, July, which is doable. So let’s see. I think it’s too early to make a conclusion. It’s too early to say anything about it but it’s definitely something that we’re looking into,” he concluded.

History of Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury

The super fight between Ngannou and Fury was getting hyped up for a very long time. Francis gained prominence by knocking his opponents out one after the other seemingly with low effort.

In his onslaught, he defeated opponents like Curtis Blaydes, Alistair Overeem, Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, Stipe Miocic, and Cyril Gane. Many feared the UFC might have run out of opponents to throw at him.

Tyson Fury on the other hand has been a legend of the sport for a bit now. With wins against opponents like Derek Chisora, Steve Cunningham, Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wiler, and Dillian White, and an unsurfaced bout against Anthony Joshua, he too was looking for a new challenge. Oleksandr Usyk, Joe Joyce, and Francis Ngannou are the three names that came up.

Currently ‘The Gypsy King’ is scheduled to take on Usyk but no definitive date has been announced.
