What did Joel Embiid say to Nikola Jokic?
Right after the tough match up between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Denver Nuggets, Joel Embiid, the towering center for the Philadelphia 76ers, approached Nuggets center, Nikola Jokic, with a display of genuine admiration.
Palming the Joker’s head, Embiid leaned in and whispered words that echoed the highest praises from one MVP to another. The significance of this moment was not lost, for Embiid declared Jokic as the best player in the league.
“I just told him he’s the best player in the league”, Embiid said. “He won a championship, and that’s the best team in the league and he’s a finals MVP. I just told him to keep going”.
According to a report from the Denver Post, Nikola Jokic’s words for Embiid were also kept in high regards, as he said, “He’s a really good player, he’s playing historic right now. He’s averaging 30-something points every night, and that’s extremely hard to do, especially every night. But I mean, I’m not playing against him. I’m playing against Philadelphia. It was a good matchup”.
To which Embiid said, “Both of us, we are just like, ‘OK, we just want to play basketball and win some games,’ He deserves [the title of best player] until you knock him [off]. He’s the Finals MVP. Until someone else takes that away, then you can claim that.”
Then Embiid made his closing remarks by saying, “But then again, I also believe in myself,” he said. “I’ll keep it at that. I just got to get there.”
