Darren Waller, the New York Giants tight end, had a challenging week with his team’s struggles. On Monday night, the Giants lost to the Buffalo Bills, despite Waller’s game-winning touchdown catch being thwarted by cornerback Taron Johnson due to an unseen jersey grab.
Waller also faced criticism from his coach, Brian Daboll, for missing a third-down block. Despite all these struggles, the tight end still shared a heartwarming winning moment with his wife Kelsey Plum on Wednesday.
Waller shares emotional moment with wife Kelsey
Darren Waller is married to Kelsey Plum, who is known as a WNBA player. The tight end has been continuously supporting his wife by attending her games since 2021. On Wednesday the team of Kelsey, The Las Vegas Aces won the final game against the New York Liberty giving Kelsey a second consecutive championship title.
Waller was also there to support his wife and shared an emotional moment with Kelsey when she won.
Kelsey Plum is also a very famous player and a good athlete. She has an impressive scoring record, was named MVP during her first WNBA All-Star appearance, and helped her team win the championship in 2022 and now she has won another championship.
Although Darren Waller is fighting his own battles, the tight end made sure to be there for his wife and celebrated his wife’s winning moments with lots of tears and compassion.
Giants TE responds to Brian Daboll criticism
Darren Waller faced criticism from his coach, Brian Daboll, for missing a critical block during a game. After missing the block, the Giants TE was seen talking to the head coach, Brian Daboll who was scolding him for missing the block. This moment went viral on the internet with many fans siding with the coach and justifying his outburst. The tight end recently addressed this matter.
Darren Waller responded positively to the criticism, mentioning that he’s used to coaches who are hard on their players and that Daboll’s approach was focused on achieving a successful play.
“I don’t have a problem with it. I’ve had coaches that coach me hard at every level and kind of get in your face. My college coach [Paul] Johnson at Georgia Tech and Coach Daboll’s sideline demeanors are pretty similar. So how fiery he is really doesn’t catch me off guard.”
The Giants’ tight end emphasized the intentions of the coach were pure and he just wanted his team to score well. This was the only reason behind his outburst which is important for the whole team.
“I mean it can become that for anyone, but it all depends on somebody’s intention. I feel like Coach’s intention was, ‘We need that block to try to get that play closer into potentially a better kick or to get points on the board.’ So his intention was about the successful play and not so much him trying to be the big dog. You know what I’m saying?”
Given the horrible performance of the Giants 1-5 this season, no one can question the coach for scolding or questioning his players. It is the job of a good coach to highlight the mistakes of their players and make them learn from their mistakes to improve their performance and this is what Brian Daboll is trying to do.
But the positive response of Waller and his understanding of the coach won everyone’s heart. Despite the Giants’ struggles, Darren Waller found solace in supporting his wife’s achievements in the WNBA, and he responded positively to his coach’s criticism, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and improving the team’s performance.
