Jonathan Owens, a talented NFL safety, began his career in the NFL with the Houston Texans in 2019. After playing four seasons with the team, he agreed to a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.
However, it seems like the environment of the Packers didn’t impress him in the 2023 season, as the safety is already packing bags for Chicago. Owen’s wife, Simon Biles, known for constantly supporting her husband appears to be quite thrilled about this move, as she shared some heartfelt messages on social media.
Jonathan Owens to join Bears on 2-year deal
As NFL free agency is underway, Jonathan Owens has quickly made his decision. His agent, Sunny Shah, told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo that Owens has signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears.
Other details of the contract, such as the amount of money involved, have not been revealed yet. But it’s been confirmed that Jonathan Owens is leaving the Green Bay Packers.
He had signed a one-year deal with the Packers and probably didn’t have any reason to sign an extension or maybe the Packers didn’t offer him any. In 2023, he played in all 17 games and started 11 games for the team.
During his one year with the Packers, Jonathan Owens produced 84 tackles, three passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one defensive touchdown. His overall grade rank was 50th among 61 safeties with at least 600 snaps played in 2023.
The Packers decided to release both Jonathan Ownes and Darnell Savage in free agency. Now with the Chicago Bears, Owens will team with free agent addition Kevin Byard and 2022 second-round pick Jaquan Brisker at safety.
Simone Biles shares farewell message to Packers fans
While Packers fans might be disappointed about the departure of Jonathan Owens’ Olympic gold medalist wife, Simone Biles isn’t.
First, she posted heartfelt messages for Packers fans and expressed gratitude for all the love and support they have showered on the couple since last year.
“Just wanted to say thank you packer nation for embracing my husband & I (love) green bay will always hold a special place in our hearts!”
Then, she also expressed her excitement for her husband’s move to the Chicago Bears. She was pleased that she wouldn’t have to take a connecting flight to get to Soldier Field.
“I’m so excited about not having a connecting flight to go & see my husband hahahahaaha,” she joked.
“CHICAGO HERE HE COMES,” she wrote in a follow-up post.
Simone Biles who got married to Jonathan in April then also admired the new city emphasizing its famous hot dogs and pizza. She added, “Also, I just love the city of Chicago.”
She concluded her tweets by describing how incredibly proud she is of Jonathan Owens.
“So incredibly proud of my husband, the grind never stops! this is just the beginning!”
