Packers continue to shuffle post-Aaron Rodgers era roster by cutting ex-Cardinals star following Jonathan Owens signing

In the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ departure from the Green Bay Packers, the team has been busy retooling its roster for the post-Rodgers era, with the latest development involving the sudden release of former Arizona Cardinals star safety James Wiggins, after just one day of signing Jonathan Owens.

The Green Bay team gave Jonathan jersey No. 34 and shifted James from No. 34 to the No. 31, worn previously by veteran starter Adrian Amos and now with the release of the ex-Cardinals star, the No. 31 became available again.

Packers continue Aaron Rodgers era’s roster adjustments by releasing James Wiggins

The Packers’ official Twitter handle posted the team decided to part ways with Safety James Wiggins, cutting Green Bay’s roster to the 90-man limit.

The second-year player from the University of Cincinnati had four interceptions in 2018, and could not appear on the field in 2019 due to a torn ACL.

Wiggins made his appearance in the NFL after being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals out of Cincinnati in 2021 and played in three games for the Cardinals as a rookie on the special teams unit. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Cardinals before finding himself out of the team’s squad in the 2021 preseason.

The former second-team All-American then spent some time on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad in 2022 and couldn’t last longer before being cut again just in a week.

The 26-year-old signed the Packers to a futures deal for the 2023 season in January and unfortunately, got cut once again. The release of Wiggins serves as a reminder that change is inevitable in the NFL, and organizations must adapt to remain competitive.

With the offseason in full swing, Green Bay’s front office remains active in exploring further acquisitions and reshaping their team as they aim to maintain the winning tradition and compete at the highest level in the upcoming season, despite the absence of their former franchise quarterback.

Packers fans and observers will eagerly await further developments from the team as they continue their strategic roster reconfiguration, keeping an eye on how these moves will shape their post-Rodgers era.
