“You’ve got a lot of alone time” UFC legend Cain Velasquez recalls his time in jail after getting out on bail

Cain Velasquez has seen the highs of the highs when it comes to combat sports. The Mexican-American managed to win the UFC Heavyweight title and take on some of the most prominent figures of the wrestling world. Did he ever guess that he had to engage in an armed pursuit at his old age?

Cain was arrested after he chased a vehicle on the highway and fired at it. That vehicle contained Harry Goularte, his mother and his stepfather. During the chase, two of Velasquez’s shots from his 40-cal hit Paul Bender, the stepfather of Harry. Others were left mostly unharmed.

Cain was taken to court and for some reason the ‘freak’ judges were extremely hostile against the former UFC fighter even though Harry Goularte had accusations of child molestation on one of Velasquez’s relatives (Probably his son). During this time prominent combat sports figures like Dana White and Khabib Nurmagomedov as well as many fans came out in support of ‘Cardio Cain.’

Finally, Cain managed to get out after paying $ 1 million in bail money and also managed to nab the permission to perform in wrestling events. Per MMA Junkie, Cain spoke on his time in captivity while speaking as a guest in the Keepin’ it 100 podcast,

“My mind ran both sides of it – the bad side and the good side. We always have to have faith. It doesn’t matter what position we’re in, where we’re at. We’ve always got to look for the best-case scenario for us and just know that our lives are something much bigger and it’s all going to work out for the best, always…”

“They had me in protective custody. It was very low-key. Only a few people that I was able to kind of hang out with. I guess the good thing about it is you’ve got a lot of alone time with yourself, and the bad thing about it was you’ve got a lot of alone time with yourself” Cain further added.

Cain appreciated all the support he and his family received during these trying times, “I did (hear about the support), and I have, and I just want to thank everyone. I truly appreciate everyone’s support in all of it. It means so much to me. It gave me a lot of strength when I was in there. I feel it and I just want thank everybody forever for that.”

Cain’s court trials are far from over, but the heavyweight has also counter-sued the day care where the molesting incident took place. We certainly hope Cain receives justice.
