Tottenham Hotspurs crashed out of the Champions League round of 16 last Tuesday as they drew 0-0 against AC Milan at their home ground, Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium. All the parties involved with the team were naturally frustrated but Richarlisons actions seem to have particularly enraged Antonio Conte.
AC Milan came away with a 1-0 win in the first leg at Milan’s legendary stadium San Siro. Brahim Diaz of Spain scored the only goal of the game for the Rossoneri. As it turned out this goal not only won the game on the night but also the tie.
Spurs forward Richarlison has not had a good start to his Spurs life as he moved away from Everton in a big money deal. He is yet to score a Premier League goal and his last Champions League goal also came during the group stages which was months ago.
What made Antonio Conte angry with Richarlison?
The Brazilian forward recently appeared in an interview and spoke about his frustrations. He talked about his poor form but also mentioned the lack of actual play time. Even though he had a great World Cup, Richarlison’s club form has been rather woeful, to say the very least.
Spurs manager Conte came out to the press and referenced his player’s interview. Although he did admit that Richarlison did not say anything about the Italian manager yet he still had some issues with the interview. Conte felt Richarlison thought and spoke of himself only and he should be using “we” instead of “I”
Conte’s Spurs face Nottingham Forest in the next matchday of the Premier League. The former Chelsea manager has not taken things by storm at Spurs. Although they remain 4th in the Premier League table, however, both Liverpool and Newcastle are hot on their heels. Both clubs have extra games over Spurs.
Antonio has said that he has spoken to Richarlison about this and the Brazilian already has admitted his mistake and apologized for it. Conte admits in order to win he may have to consider getting “ugly” with his fellow players.
Spurs will be desperate to get the 3 points over Nottingham Forest, who sit 14th in the table and only 4 points away from the relegation zone. What do you think? Will Conte lead Spurs to a top 4 finish? Will Richarlison find his scoring boots once again? Comment down below.
