Ex-Steelers star Le’Veon Bell reflects on decision to leave Pittsburgh wishing he had accepted the offer

Le’Veon Bell, the former star running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, recently shared that he regrets his decision of leaving the Steelers.

In an appearance on the “Steel Here” podcast, Bell admitted that his departure from Pittsburgh was “petty” and acknowledged that he should have taken the Steelers’ offer.

Why did Le’Veon Bell leave the Steelers?

Bell and Steelers reached an impasse, leading to a holdout during the 2017 offseason. Eventually, he played under the franchise tag that year. But the player decided to sit out the entire 2018 season. He later signed a deal with the New York Jets before the start of the 2019 season.

At the time, Bell had been seeking a fully guaranteed contract from the Steelers. But now he regrets his decision and believes he should have accepted that offer. Reflecting on his past during the podcast, Bell admitted that his insistence on guaranteed money was somewhat petty, and he acknowledged that he could have made a different choice.

“It was like a little petty, the guarantee stuff. … I’m thinking could I have just ate it? Yeah, I probably could’ve, yeah. I probably could’ve really ate it,” Bell said, via Andrew Limberg of 93.7 The Fan.

Why did the Jets cut LeVeon Bell?

After Bell joined the Jets, he couldn’t live up to the team’s expectations. He struggled to mesh with head coach Adam Gase, and there were disagreements between them regarding Bell’s usage in the offense. The situation deteriorated to a breaking point after the Jets’ loss to the Cardinals, where Bell declined a postgame interview and expressed his displeasure with Gase on Twitter by liking critical posts.

Following these events, the Jets attempted to trade Bell but ultimately decided to release him.

In hindsight, Bell has come to realize that leaving Pittsburgh and not accepting their offer was a mistake. We hope the best for his future and can’t wait to see what happens next in his career.
