One of the best quarterbacks in the NFL Patrick Mahomes signed his big contract back in 2020 and three years later, the Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt stated his honest take on what the future holds for the QB amid renewal talks.
Despite arguably being the best quarterback in the NFL currently, Mahomes is not the best-paid QB in the league as Lamar Jackson’s trade with the Baltimore Ravens and Jalen Hurts’ deal with the Philadelphia Eagles are way more lucrative than his deal. The Chiefs CEO is already aware of the fact and admitted Mahomes will never make what he is truly worth to the team.
“Well, I don’t know that there’s really a way to quantify it financially and no matter what he makes over his career, I’m sure one way or another he’ll be underpaid,” Hunt said.
Clark gushed about the Super Bowl champion saying he agreed to give the Chiefs the flexibility to afford him and structure the contract according to the team’s capability.
“The great thing about Patrick (Mahomes) is, when we did that deal, he recognized that he wanted to give the club the flexibility to build the team around him. And that contract was structured in that way”, he added.
Patrick is one of those players who wants his team to have enough money to pick the best players available in the league to continue their success mission as he knows success doesn’t come with how much he earns.
The Chiefs veteran star has already inked an MVP and a Super Bowl title in his name at the age of 27 and is the second player after Brett Favre to capture two MVPs at this age or before.
