Darmar Hamlin, a Bills safety defender, suffered one of the most horrific injuries in the final game of NFL Week 17. The player was taken to the hospital immediately after receiving treatment from on-field paramedics.
Following the incident, the game was temporarily suspended by the referee; later, the NFL declared the game postponed through an official statement.

What happened to Damar Hamlin?
During the first quarter, Damar Hamlin played a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, as the receiver hit the defender on the chest directly. Damar stood quickly, but horribly collapsed after a few steps and showed no movement.
The team’s medical personnel tried to determine the problem, but they had to administer CPR and start defibrillating. As there appeared to be no improvement, the 24-year-old was rushed to Cincinnati Medical Center. His mother was also with him in the ambulance.
What is the reason behind Damar Hamlin’s collapse?
Despite the lack of official confirmation, bills confirmed the youngster suffered ‘Cardiac Arrest’ prior to his fall. Furthermore, several sources assumed the cause was ‘Commotio Cordis,’ which can cause heart arrhythmia if anyone’s chest is directly hit.
Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.

To grasp the concept fully, Dr. David Agus defined the condition as ‘heart confusion,’ which occurs when the heart’s rhythm of pumping blood to the brain is disrupted. When Hamlin took the hit, the blow disrupted the electrical signals in the heart, creating a fast, erratic heartbeat known as ventricular fibrillation.
For this reason, he was given a shock through the defibrillator to bring the rhythm back and pump blood to the brain. To fathom the depth of the injury, the doctor said, “Every minute you wait is basically a 10% increase in the likelihood of death.”
How is Damar Hamlin’s condition now?
Hamlin is under constant supervision in the hospital, as the next 12 to 24 hours will be crucial for his heart’s improvement or otherwise, God forbid. He is still on ventilation for breathing support, according to the doctors.
The teammates, fans, and well-wishers were praying for Damar’s and his family’s well-being.
