Days after being dropped from PSG’s UCL squad, Marco Verratti edges closer to Al-Arabi transfer with contract fee worth €50 million

Marco Verrati has been a longtime servant of Paris Saint Germain, featuring for them since 2012. But after a decade, the club is no longer happy with him and instead wants him out of the club.

To convince the veteran midfielder to leave, the French club excluded him from their squad at first, even barring him from taking part in the pre-season tour in Japan. He was then reinstated in the squad but has yet to even feature in any matchday squads. And now that he is out of their Champions League squad, a move away from the French capital is imminent.

Marco Verratti set to join Al-Arabi

Now that Verratti is no longer counted in PSG’s future, the midfielder has finally decided to move on. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Qatari side Al Arabi is the frontrunner to get Marco Verratti. In fact, talks have advanced so far that the deal may be official by next week. The Italian international is expected to travel to Doha himself in the next few days to seal the transfer.

The Qatari side has already decided on a price tag with PSG 10 days ago. A fee close to €45m to 50m is expected to be the final transfer price. Both club’s representatives are set to meet, this time along with the player’s representative to fix the transfer soon.

Along with Verratti, even striker Julian Draxler is expected to leave for the same club. It is important to note that Al Arabi is a Qatari side paying huge amounts of money for two players that have not been asked for much among Europe’s top clubs. PSG, being a Qatari-owned club, may be trying to get in some funds to help run the club.

Marco Verratti ditched from PSG’s UCL squad

Marco Verratti wanted to extend his stay at the French capital and did not want to discuss any transfers. After the appointment of Luis Enrique as manager, the squad has been overhauled. Lots of players, including Neymar Jr. who moved to Al Hilal, have been forced to leave the club in recent days.

Verratti was among them and was excluded from the squad for this reason. He was then left out of the UCL squad, to reinforce to him the idea of leaving. He has not played or trained a single minute with the club and has not even been included in any matchday squads.

PSG has been strict this transfer window, making sure to comply with FFP rules. They have sold many players for huge sums, in order to properly reinforce the squad. Unfortunately, for Marco Verratti, he is about to be the next in the outgoing line.
