Domantas Sabonis joins Kevin Love in NBA record books with latest statline

Domantas Sabonis reaches Kevin Love’s double-double record

Domantas Sabonis scored his 53rd consecutive double-double on Saturday and tied with the five-time All-Star Kevin Love for the longest such streak since the ABA-NBA merger. Domantas will be looking to break the record on Monday when the Sacramento Kings take on the Philadelphia 76ers at the Golden1 Center.

Sabonis has been averaging 20.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game in the 70 games he has played in the 2023-24 season. The 27-year-old power forward has led the Kings amazingly so far, and the fans have hailed him as the golden boy of the team. In fact, the team has tied him down with a lucrative five-year contract worth over $217 million.

It was due to Sabonis’ incredible performance that the Sacramento Kings were successful in getting a win over the Orlando Magic at Kia Center after losing badly to the Washington Wizards on Thursday.

Sabonis finished the game with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists which paved the way to victory for the Kings. With a missed three pointer by the Magic forward Paolo Banchero, Kings defeated Orlando 109-107 in a last second win. Riding the victory, the Sacramento Kings have now moved up to number 7 with a record of 41-29 in the Western Conference, where things are heating up in the race to the playoffs.

The Kings head coach Mike Brown praised Domantas, and said, “He cares a ton. His effort is unmatched when it comes to rebounding the basketball. After being around him and coaching him, you understand why he has gotten that many double-doubles in a row. He is just that type of player.”
