During a 2015 episode of “Oprah’s Master Class,” the Hollywood megastar reflected on this traumatic incident and how it taught him the value of life. At just 15 years old, Johnson was forced to confront the scary reality of his mother, Ata Johnson’s suicide attempt.
In 1978, Rocky Johnson, The Rock’s father, married “Ata,” and like any other couple, they had their share of rough times. In the early 90s, Dwayne Johnson accompanied his parents to a restaurant for lunch.
During the meal, his parents got into a heated argument, causing a disturbance. They were asked to leave, and Dwayne drove his car while his parents took another vehicle. However, Rocky pulled over the car shortly after, and Ata got out.
The Rock saved his mother’s life
The Great One remembers his mother’s glazed look as she walked into the middle of I-65, with cars swerving and horns blaring. Dwayne rushed over and wrestled his mother to safety on the side of the road.
He couldn’t recall what he said to her, but he remembers her staying silent. At that moment, the then-15-year-old learned one of the most valuable lessons of his life.

Fortunately, Dwayne Johnson was able to pull his mother to safety before any harm was done. Although she doesn’t remember the events of that day, The Great One is aware of the struggles his mother faced during their early years. He recalls the tears she shed when he was too young to help.
Now that he is financially stable, Johnson wants to provide his mother with the best life possible. Last year, he gifted her a dream home worth approximately $270 million.
He shared this emotional moment with his fans on Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt caption. It is worth noting that Rocky and Ata got divorced in 2003, after being married for over two decades.
