Jalen Hurts left the Philadelphia Eagles’ game on Sunday, December 22, against the Washington Commanders because he got a concussion. Before this game, the Eagles were on a 10-game winning streak, and they could have won their 11th in a row. But Hurts’ injury in the first quarter might have stopped that from happening.
The medical tent checked Hurts before he headed to the locker room. After a 13-yard run, his head hit the ground, and linebacker Frankie Luvu hit him in the helmet, as reported by NBC Sports.

Jalen Hurts was checked in the medical tent before heading to the locker room. A statement later confirmed he wouldn’t return for the game. Kenny Pickett, a former Steelers quarterback, stepped in and threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown, giving the Eagles an early 14-0 lead.
Despite Pickett’s efforts, the Eagles lost 36-33, ending their winning streak. Their record is now 12-3, while the Commanders improved to 10-5.
Eagles coach shares Jalen Hurts’ injury update
Jalen Hurts’ status for next week’s home game against Dallas remains uncertain. This could hurt the Eagles’ shot at the NFC’s top seed and a first-round bye.
Coach Nick Sirianni emphasized preparation over improvisation when asked about adjusting to Kenny Pickett stepping in. He said, “There are times we have to adjust certain things, but we go into the game with a plan if that were to happen. We go into a game with a plan if were to go down.”
However, Sirianni did not provide an update on Hurts after the game. He stated, “I haven’t talked to our medical staff yet. Anything that has anything to do with the head is out of our hands there.”
