Ex-Cowboys QB Ben DiNucci receives humorous career advice from Broncos HC following rookie minicamp interception

Sean Payton was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Broncos for this season, and during yesterday’s first rookie minicamp, the HC appeared to be very committed and focused.

Payton’s playing career came to an end with the Leicester Panthers in 1988, and in 1997 he began his coaching career for the NFL. Afterward, he joined the Cowboys, he served as the team’s assistant head coach from 2003 to 2005. He accepted his first head coaching position with New Orleans and led the team to its first Super Bowl victory.

What guidance did the former Cowboys quarterback receive from the Broncos coach?

Payton witnessed Drew Sanders save a great Ben DiNucci pass interception touchdown during the camp. A reporter questioned the HC about the interception that Sanders had taped during a press conference, and Sean did not miss the opportunity to make fun of DiNucci.

He gave Ben some hysterical career advice, telling him to change his line of work if he can’t fit in well on the field because the Bronchos coach knows the quarterback owns Walmart.

“Unfortunately for Ben DiNucci, it was his first interception and there was more to that interception if you looked at it. it was good play by Sanders and it was right in front of Greg Penner. I was telling Greg before practice how this Ben DiNucci was doing well. I told Ben — I said, ‘You know, he owns Walmart. If it doesn’t work out here, I’m sure there’s a greeting opportunity somewhere at one of his local stores.’ It was good play by Drew, [he had] a good break,” he said.

However, the head coach was very complimentary of Drew, who finished the 2022 season second in the SEC and 15th overall with 9.5 sacks, the most by a Razorback since 2012. The linebacker is also the first since Ronnie Caveness in 1964 to receive First-Team All-America recognition from the AP.

The 22-year-old was a Butkus Award Finalist during his final season with the team in 2022 after contributing 63 tackles, one interception, 39 pressures, and 11 sacks.

Payton supports the rookie cornerback by washing the former Cowboys quarterback, so this could serve as some sort of great motivation for him before the regular season.
