Ex-Raiders CB Damon Arnette faces new legal trouble in assault and weapons case after earlier release

Former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Damon Arnette finds himself entangled in fresh legal complications once again, as he faces new charges in an assault and weapons case shortly after his release from the team.

Arnette was selected as the 20th overall by the Raiders and played in nine games for the team due to injuries. He was the starter in seven matches, recording 25 tackles, one tackle for a loss, and two pass breakups.

The youngster appeared in four games in his second season, recording four tackles and two pass break-ups before getting released from the franchise in November 2021 due to giving threats with guns on an Instagram video, albeit he wasn’t charged by authorities.

Ex-Raiders CB Damon Arnette Indicted for assault with deadly weapons

According to ESPN, the former Raiders CB Damon Arnette has been indicted in Nevada following charges alleging he brandished a .45-caliber handgun during an argument with Las Vegas Strip casino valets on Jan. 28, 2022.

Las Vegas Police said Damon lost his valet ticket and became angry when the valet attendant asked for his name and identification to verify his vehicle. He became violent, cursed at the valet saying he should “Give me my mother [expletive] keys” and pulled a gun to threaten him. Police arrested him on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and possession of marijuana, and a controlled substance.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated in July that prosecutors dropped the charges against the former CB six months after the incident as police did not provide enough evidence to continue with the case, however, the grand jury has decided to bring back the case and charge him.

The cornerback’s attorney Ross Goodman did not respond to telephone and email inquiries about his client’s indictment.

The 2020 first-round draft pick of the Las Vegas Raiders was sued by a valet attendant for a similar incident in 2021, albeit he didn’t face any legal issues as the case was dropped later. He was also sued by a woman due to hitting her car with his SUV and injuring her before fleeing the scene in the same year.

The 26-year-old signed a futures contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in January 2022, however, he was cut by the franchise following his arrest in Las Vegas.

Arnette will again face an uphill battle to overcome the legal troubles that continue to follow him, casting a shadow over what could have been a promising football career.
