Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins signs with Dwight Howard’s ex-T1 league team Taiwan Beer Leopards

Dwight Howard has had a successful NBA career that saw him play across different teams before moving overseas. He has since voiced his desire to return to the league on multiple occassions, but to no avail.

It seems, however, that the T1 League in Taiwan is set to witness a powerhouse reunion as former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins aligns forces with his comrading center Dwight Howard.

A growing pattern among seasoned athletes in this field involves venturing into foreign leagues to sustain both their passion for the game and continue earning after concluding their careers in the NBA.

As per an official statement from the Taiwan Beer Leopards, the seasoned NBA veteran DeMarcus Cousins has signed a deal to play in Taiwan for the current season. The 33-year-old center is set to make his debut on 20th January 2024.

“We’re confident that with [Cousins’] all-around skills, he’ll bring a totally new chemistry to the Leopards,” CEO Johnny Chang said in the press release of Focus Taiwan.

Delivering a video message on the team’s Facebook page this Monday, the 33-year-old Cousins extended a warm greeting by saying that he was, “excited to come over and put on a show for you.”

Upon Dwight Howard’s inaugural appearance in the T1 League, the towering athlete swiftly asserted dominance over the game. Since then he has been performing consistently for his teams and was also involved in an on-court brawl recently.

In a thrilling debut, Howard showcased exceptional prowess, amassing 38 points, 25 rebounds, nine assists, and nine blocks, ultimately securing a triumphant win for his team, the Taoyuan Leopards.

Dwight Howard playing in Taiwan is seen by many as a great boon to Taiwanese basketball. Many have hoped that his signing with the league may prompt more players retiring from the NBA to continue their careers in Taiwan.
