George Kittle doesn’t think Mac Jones quarterbacking the 49ers would be successful

Mac Jones is still the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots, despite being pulled from games in consecutive weeks. The quarterback’s performance was exceptionally low but the coach, Bill Belichick, is still favoring him. This has led to a lot of criticism and debates about whether Mac Jones is a good fit for the Patriots or not.

George Kittle, a San Francisco 49ers player, was recently asked about his perspective on Mac Jones becoming a 49ers quarterback. Kittle had a very strong opinion about the Patriots’ QB not being a good fit for the San Francisco 49ers.

Kittle doesn’t think Mac Jones being 49ers quarterback would work

George Kittle made an appearance on KNBR’S “Murphy and Mac” where he and ex-NFL player Dan Orlovsky talked about the quarterback situation of the 49ers. Orlovsky believes that Mac Jones can be a good fit for the 49ers but Kittle has completely different views.

Kittle’s argument against Jones as the 49ers’ quarterback is rooted in his admiration for their current quarterback, Brock Purdy. He finds it disrespectful to suggest replacing Purdy with the Patriots’ QB and emphasizes that Purdy’s performance goes beyond just statistics. He admitted that the 25-year-old is a fine quarterback but Purdy is an exceptional quality.

“That’s disrespectful to Brock Purdy. I think Mac Jones is a fine quarterback,” Kittle said.

Kittle encouraged people to watch Purdy’s game tape and appreciate his skills, acknowledging that there’s always scrutiny and discussion about the 49ers’ quarterback, given the franchise’s history.

“What Brock’s doing — you look at his stats, just watch the tape. People just say, ‘Oh, I see his stats, I see some of the things they talk about on Sunday Night Football.‘ No, just watch him move in the pocket, watch some of these throws that he’s making.”

He also emphasized that all of us need to improve, as is the case with Purdy. But he remains one of the best quarterbacks.

“Sure, is there room for improvement? There’s room for improvement in all of us. We can all get better. The reason for Brock [and] it’s all the focus on him is that he’s the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, and we’re 5-0. It’s one of the most historic franchises; there’s always a quarterback, some type of … not controversy, but someone always wants to say something about the 49ers quarterback, and that’s what (Orlovsky) talked about.”

Interestingly, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly considered drafting Mac Jones with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft but ultimately chose Trey Lance. However, due to Trey Lance’s shortcomings and injuries, Brock Purdy emerged as a successful quarterback for the team, and Kittle suggests that the 49ers are content with him leading their offense. Recently, Aaron Rodgers also appreciated Brock Pudy and the 49ers are also happy with him.

Mac Jones’ Patriots performance

Mac Jones is the starting quarterback of the Patriots and the team has faced serious difficulties, including not scoring a touchdown in their last 34 offensive possessions and giving up 34 points in back-to-back games, a first for a Belichick-coached team.

The quarterback has struggled with turnovers, with several interceptions returned for touchdowns this season. His performance with the Patriots wasn’t that incredible. But after the team’s and the QB’s extremely poor performance in their recent game against the Saints, there is growing criticism and discussion about the possibility of the Patriots making a change at the quarterback position.

Fans believe the Patriots will soon do something to improve their quarterback position. Till now, it seems like the Patriots made a big mistake by making Mac Jones their starting quarterback, and on the other hand, the 49ers and George Kittle are satisfied with Brock Purdy as their quarterback.
