“He’s a fantastic player and has become even better” Erik ten Hag praises Man United transfer target Frenkie de Jong ahead of Europa League match vs Barcelona

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has full praise for his former player, Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong as the Dutchman is a rare talent who boosts the strength of any squad.

Frenkie De Jong previously played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, where he made a name for himself as one of the most talented young players in Europe.

During his time at Ajax, de Jong was an integral part of Ten Hag’s team, helping the club win the Eredivisie title in the 2018-19 season and reach the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League that same year.

“In 2019, there was a lot of fascination with that Ajax team. Frenkie brought a lot of that fascination and he has developed over the following years in Spain.”- Erik Ten Hag talking about De Jong.

“He’s a fantastic player and has become even better. Playing out from the back, he always has time. It was a pleasure working with him. He would strengthen any squad in the world. He’s got unique quality.”- Manchester United manager has nothing but love for his former apprentice.

De Jong can play in a deep-lying midfield role, where he could use his excellent passing and ball-control abilities to dictate the tempo of the game while having the freedom to push forward and join the attack line when the team is on the front foot.

Manchester United is very much aware of the fact that De Jong possessed a crucial role to play in dictating the game as they look to counter the line with Casemiro as the former Real Madrid man is back in the Nou Camp again.

Barcelona is top of the table with eight points lead over Real Madrid, but being knocked out of the UCL was painful as they look to make a sense of the situation in the Europa League.

Frenkie De Jong is back to his best shape with the team and will be eyeing to extend the good play as playing against Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United won’t be that easy.
