NBA superstar Stephen Curry and WNBA standout Sabrina Ionescu might soon transform from best friends to foes. The Warriors guard challenged the New York Liberty guard to a 3-point shootout after the Warriors guard won the WNBA All-Star 3-point competition on Friday.

Sab, the point guard for the New York Liberty, made basketball history by scoring 37 out of a possible 40 points by making 25 of a possible 27 shots. And if there’s one thing about Curry that we’ve come to understand throughout the course of his NBA career, it’s that he’ll never back down from a challenge.

Who’s the better 3-point competition shooter? ” Immediately after breaking the record, Ionescu publicly criticized the 4-time NBA champion on Twitter in jest.

Naturally, this made basketball aficionados cry for a real 3-point shootout between the 3-point emperor and 3-point empress to ultimately anoint one sharpshooter. In the final round of the WNBA 3-point competition, the 3-time Nancy Lieberman Award Winner broke a WNBA and NBA record and with a 37-point outburst was referred to as the new 3-point champion.

She broke the NBA’s previous benchmark of 31 points accomplished by Tyrese Haliburton (2023) and Stephen, in conjunction with the WNBA record of 30 points held by Allie Quigly. Curry has competed in the 3-point competition seven times (2010–2013–16–2019–2021) and has claimed two victories (2015, 2021).

He currently owns the record for making the most successful 3-pointers in NBA history, having reached the 3,390 mark and continuing to add to his total. Although Stephen Curry has achieved what many would have previously believed to be impossible, he is aware that Ionescu’s performance in the 3-point competition will be difficult to top.
