Inter Milan CEO drops bombshell on Lautaro Martinez to Man Utd and Milan Skriniar to PSG transfer rumours

Inter Milan is set to make Lautaro Martinez their new captain while previous captain Milan Skriniar moves to Paris Saint Germain in the summer.

According to Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta, Lautaro Martinez has all it takes to be the future Inter Milan captain. He also crushed all hopes of a transfer to Manchester United. The CEO said all this in an interview with Italian media outlet Gazzetta.

He has made it clear that Lautaro is not for sale. According to Gazzetta, Martinez has been touted as a significant transfer target this summer by both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Both English clubs have made preliminary queries to Inter as they prepare for the pursuit of the 25-year-old. According to the Gazzetta, the Nerazzurri have made their position plain. Martinez is not a player that the Italian club intends to move this summer.

What did the Inter Milan CEO say?

In the interview, the CEO talked about the rumors of Martinez to Manchester United. He stated, “I think there are all the conditions for Lautaro to become our future captain.”

Then when asked about Milan Skriniar he said, “Skriniar move to PSG? We wanted to make things in better way but I’ll say something at the end of the season.”

Milan Skriniar was stripped of the Serie A captaincy after agreeing to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. The Slovakian center-back will join the Ligue 1 team at the conclusion of the season when his current contract expires. The agreement with PSG was made back in January.

Samir Handanovic is the current captain, however, he wasn’t featured much this season after losing his starting role to Andre Onana.

Skriniar donned the armband throughout Handanovic’s absence, although Lautaro Martinez has worn it since Skriniar was stripped of it. Marcelo Brozovic has also captained the Nerazzurri at times.

It seems the club is angry over Skriniar’s departure. The CEO did mention he will have some words at the end of the season.

Martinez as the future captain?

Martinez has been described as vocal and passionate in the locker room and has established himself as one of Inter’s leaders. This season, the World Cup winner has 20 goals and five assists.

He has scored 98 goals in over 232 matches since joining the Italian giants from Racing Club in 2018. Martinez was also instrumental in Inter winning their first Seria A title in 11 years in 2021. It stopped Juventus’ nine-year winning streak. If the striker does stay at the club, he could become the new captain of Inter Milan.

While they have lost the current Seria A title to Napoli this season, the Nerazzurri can still win the Coppa Italia and are close to reaching their first UCL final since 2010. They are currently 2-0 up after beating derby rivals AC Milan in the first leg of the semis. They are currently scheduled to face Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final on May 25.
