“It is Leo’s decision”: Barcelona star Jordi Alba welcomes potential return of Lionel Messi amidst club’s controversies

In an interview with GOAL, Jordi Alba discussed the club’s ongoing issues and a potential Lionel Messi comeback.

Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona would be “perfect” in the eyes of his former teammate Alba, who also acknowledged that it would be “great news” to see the Argentinean return to the club.

Speaking exclusively to GOAL, the Spaniard discussed a potential reunion with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, whose future at Paris Saint-Germain is uncertain as contract negotiations drag on.

What did Jordi Alba say?

Alba when asked about Messi said, “It is Leo’s decision. Honestly, we haven’t talked about this topic, but it’s clear that in the end, seeing Messi with another shirt other than Barca’s is always weird.”

“In the end, if he wants to and the club wants to, it’s perfect for me. He has been the player with whom I have understood the best on the pitch.”

Barcelona is now facing financial difficulties, and La Liga and UEFA are looking into claims that they bribed the former vice president of the Spanish Referee’s Committee with vast sums of money between 2001 and 2018.

He also talked about the situation, “Besides, players like me, who have been Barca fans since we were little kids, it’s true that it’s not pleasant, but we have to compete, keep scoring points, isolating ourselves from everything, and winning games, whatever the situation may be.”

Is Lionel Messi really coming back to Barca?

Messi, left Barcelona as the team’s all-time leading goalscorer and appearances leader in 2021 while under Laporta’s watch. He will become a free agent on June 30 and will be able to leave Paris Saint-Germain without any restrictions.

Messi has decided to quit PSG this summer, according to French outlet Foot Mercato (via PSG Talk). According to reports, Messi and his family have decided to leave the French city. They are unlikely to change their views. Their preferred club is thought to be Barcelona and the player himself decided it after Barcelona contacted him.

Barca think La Liga will approve Messi's return

Barcelona is now prepared to implement a squad-wide salary cut to permit the return of their great. The reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano disclosed that the Catalan giants are prepared to make compromises. This is in order to bring their best player back to Camp Nou. Barcelona is rumored to be ready to offer a deal directly to Messi’s camp in the following days.

Barcelona leads the La Liga standings by 11 points after 29 games, and despite the club’s current struggles, they appear poised to claim their first league title since 2018–19.
