Juventus expresses interest in signing Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood following the dropping of alleged assault charges against him.
According to rumors, Juventus are highly interested in signing Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood this summer.
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on allegations of rape and violence and was promptly suspended by United.
Although the criminal charges were dismissed in February of this year, Greenwood has yet to resume first-team training. The club is conducting its own internal inquiry to decide whether to incorporate the youngster into the team. Currently, he is training alone away from the first team.
Mason Greenwood to Juventus?
Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford is looking doubtful after not playing for the Red Devils in over 16 months. But according to The Sun, Serie A club Juventus might provide him a chance to relaunch his career overseas as they want to recruit him on a long-term loan contract.
The Italian club has already contacted Greenwood’s agents to assess his interest.
Greenwood’s contract with United expires in 2025, and the club is worried that they will be unable to attract high-priced bids for the forward. They are thought to be prepared to loan him out as long as the club he is joining agrees to take over his £75,000-a-week salary.
According to the source, AC Milan and Roma are also considering the 21-year-old, while Turkish teams are also keeping an eye on Greenwood’s position.
Juventus think that having his ex-teammate Paul Pogba at the club will increase the chances of Greenwood joining them.
Greenwood shared a dressing room in Manchester with Pogba for many years. And so the youngster may be enticed by the chance to be paired with the Frenchman again in Turin.
Pogba joined Juventus on a free transfer last summer when his contract with Manchester United ended, but his debut year has been hindered by a knee injury that also forced him to miss the World Cup.
Will Greenwood ever play for United again?
According to reports, Mason has informed close friends that he isn’t expecting to feature for United again. Due to this information, Juventus may believe they have a high chance of landing Greenwood.
Greenwood talked with Erik ten Hag after the accusations against him were dropped, but he is said to be disappointed that he has still not been reinstated to the first team.
Before his suspension, Greenwood was regarded as one of the greatest prospects to emerge from United’s academy in recent years. He had scored 35 goals in 129 first team appearances.
His club form won him an England call-up, and he made his debut against Iceland in September 2020. But he was sent home soon after for violating Covid regulations by smuggling two ladies into the team hotel. And then his career took an abrupt stop with the rape and violence allegations.
It remains to be seen whether the young forward can restart his career. And whether he will take the leap to Juventus to do that.
