Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo invites a grieving supporter to the game at Old Trafford

Manchester United has been suffering through an injury crisis and poor performances on the field, with their captain already called a “fraud”. But even in times like this, there have been some bright stars in the squad, and one of them is certainly the young Kobbie Mainoo.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been providing the team with impressive performances and in a recent match against Wolves, the player also scored the winning goal in the 90+7th minute, making it a big moment in his career. It seems like that moment was shared by another family in their times of despair and an emotional message has reached the player for his efforts.

Kobbie Mainoo sends a strong message to distraught Man Utd fan

On Friday, February 2, 2024, when Kobbie Mainoo scored the freaking winning goal against the Wolves so late in extra time, he would have never guessed that alongside him, another man was watching the match and celebrating that goal with his son while being admitted to a hospital in his fight against cancer.

Sadly, a man named Vincent Killeen lost his brave battle against cancer two days ago and for his son, his dad’s last happy moment was seeing Kobbie Mainoo score the winning goal for the club. So, to express his gratitude, Daniel Killeen wrote on Twitter to express his thankfulness towards the player and the team.

Responding to that, Manchester United management got hold of the tweet and soon, a video was posted of Kobbie Mainoo expressing his thoughts on the situation. The youngster expressed his sadness over Daniel’s dad’s demise and invited him and his son to come attend a match in Old Trafford soon so that they could share the moment and get sorted.

Earlier this month, Daniel tweeted his gratitude towards the player and the team after his dad’s demise. The man wrote that he and his dad watched the match against the Wolves together and it was his dad’s last match, in which his dad expressed happiness when Kobbie Mainoo scored the winning goal. He also expressed that the player is already a hero in his household and scored the most important goal for the Killean family, which has even made him the favorite player of the 7-year-old kid. Daniel expressed his gratitude again and wished for a bright future for the youngster.

It was a very special gesture by the club and the player to invite the family to a match at home. This would help to make the bond between the fans and the club much deeper, which is always vital for any club looking for success.

Kobbie Mainoo’s performances for Man Utd this season

Because of the player’s gesture, fans have praised the player for being so emotional and connected to fans but that’s not the only reason for the praise. The Manchester United academy product has been delivering consistently good performances for Erik ten Hag’s side in a season where the best names are underperforming their potential.

This season itself, the 18-year-old has already played 14 matches for the senior club and has already provided 2 goals and assists each for the team and those numbers are impressive considering the tendency of the Dutch manager to play the young midfielder in a double pivot with either Casemiro or Scott McTominay.

The player’s ability to make runs from deep in the field and also to provide late, invisible runs inside the box has greatly helped the Premier League side find some bright sparks in an overall dull season till now.

Even though the youngster has been performing very well for the Red Devils, there are reports of the club going for the signing of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, which could be detrimental to the young Mainoo’s growth at the club.

What do you think? Should Manchester United go after Olise and reportedly compete with rival Manchester City for him or should the club just trust Mainoo and give him chances to prove his worth? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
