Marcus Rashford reportedly slapped with £650,000 fine for partying in Belfast nightclub and skipping training

Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United has seen some really turbulent off-the-field issues. Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan, Antony’s and Mason Greenwood’s sexual assault cases, Jadon Sancho’s refusal to apologise and reintegrate with the squad, Alejandro Garnacho’s disciplinary issues – all these challenges, one after the other, have made the Dutch manager’s job much more difficult.

It seems, Marcus Rashford’s name was added to the list of off-field issues before Manchester United’s 4-2 victory over Newport County last night.

Marcus Rashford rumoured to be fined £650,000

Manchester United’s off-the-field troubles persist, with star winger Marcus Rashford allegedly seen partying in a Belfast nightclub the night before a crucial training session for the fourth-round away tie against Newport County, which he ultimately missed. Rashford was spotted at Thompsons Garage nightclub in the city on Thursday night with his childhood friend Ro-Shaun Williams.

Following this incident, reports have come out claiming that the 26-year-old has had his wages of two weeks deferred, amouting to 650,000 pounds.

Rashford reported being unwell upon his return from Belfast and consequently missed the trip to Newport. The match saw Manchester United blow a 2-goal lead before Antony scored his first goal in a year, and Rasmus Hojlund netted from close range in extra time.

Rashford has struggled to replicate his goalscoring success of the previous season where he managed to score 30 goals in all competitions, having scored just 4 goals this season.

Erik ten Hag talks on Marcus Rashford’s situation

Marcus Rashford’s recent incident adds to concerns about discipline within the Manchester United dressing room and raises questions about Erik ten Hag’s ability to manage and control the team.

Regarding the absence of player, Ten Hag said on Friday, “This morning, Rashford was ill and (Jonny) Evans was ill so we have to see how they recover.”

However, on Sunday, when asked about the incident, Ten Hag simply said that, “He reported ill. The rest is an internal matter, and I will deal with that.”

This is not Rashford’s first display of indiscipline either. The winger was previously benched in the 22/23 season after failing to report to a team meeting on time, and more recently, his behaviour was deemed to have been “unacceptable” when he was spotted partying just a day after United’s 3-0 loss in the Manchester derby.

“I spoke with him about it. It’s unacceptable. He apologised and that is it. For us it’s an internal matter. He’s very motivated to put things right. He’s totally with us. He has made a mistake but that doesn’t say he’s not fitting in. I see him every day in training, what he’s doing, I know.” Ten Hag said previously.
