Napoli President de Laurentiis claims José Mourinho ‘won’t be in Italy’ following dramatic Roma exit

When Jose Mourinho arrived at Roma, there was much fanfare in Italy. It was believed that the club was destined for glory after years of mediocrity and mismanagement under Mourinho’s stewardship. All those hopes were initially met when Mourinho won the UEFA Conference League with Roma and qualified for the Europa League in his first season.

Despite managing on a shoestring budget, Mourinho managed to take them all the way to the finals of the Europa League, which was thought of as another success for the club. However, things have taken a nasty turn as Roma have struggled for any form this season and find themselves 8th in the league, leading to the firing of Jose Mourinho and leaving their fans disappointed.

Napoli president drops bold claim on José Mourinho’s future in Italy

Since his departure, Roma have acted quickly and appointed Danielle De Rossi as interim manager until the end of the season. De Rossi played for Roma his entire career and is also considered Italy’s and Roma’s greatest club legend.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis squashed all rumours regarding Jose Mourinho as he confirmed to the media that he will not come on board to manage the Seria A club saying that “Mourinho has nothing to do with Napoli. He is a very funny and impulsive coach, but I feel his destiny lies outside Italy. Surely not at Napoli.”

Mourinho, who has been a popular figure in Italy even before he arrived to manage Roma, has been treated as nothing short of a god by the Roma fans, who guided them to their first European trophy in club history by winning the Conference League with them and taking them to the Europa League Final the previous year. Despite having a win percentage of 49%, Mourinho remained a fan favorite at Roma.

The Napoli club president also said that club record signing Victor Osimhen would leave the club in the summer as his destiny lies somewhere else. “We knew about Osimhen since this summer. We knew perfectly well that he would go to Real Madrid, Paris St Germain or an English team,” he told the reporters. Osimhen earlier stated that he had “already made a decision about the next step in his career”.

All these statements about Mourinho beg to ask the question, “Will he return to the Premier League?”

Does Jürgen Klopp exit make room for José Mourinho?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shocked the world of football as he announced that he was going to leave Liverpool at the end of this season. Klopp said that he had run out of “energy” and this decision came out of nowhere and has been quite hard to believe. Liverpool, who have been a major force to reckon with in world football under Klopp, will also be losing their entire board apart from their manager, including their sporting director, assistant manager and development coach.

Given that Liverpool are going through such a massive change after the end of this season, it would not be surprising to witness Jose Mourinho take charge of Liverpool. Mourinho already has the experience and resume required to succeed at a club of Liverpool’s stature, having been the manager of mammoth clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan.

Could we see Mourinho back in the Premier League soon?

Not only Liverpool, but other clubs such as Newcastle United and Chelsea, where Jose Mourinho is also a fan favourite, could make the swoop in for a coach of his class as they both have struggled this season to find any consistency.
