NBA injury report: Grizzlies Ja Morant upgraded to available

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has missed two of the previous four games due to a thigh injury. Morant has just suffered another injury, this time to his hip. As a result, the Grizzlies recently listed him as questionable for Monday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. However, an optimistic injury update suggests that Morant will not have to miss any more time.

Morant is likely to play in Monday night’s game against the Suns in Memphis.

This season, the All-Star point guard has appeared in 35 games and has averaged 27.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game (on 46.6% shooting from the field). While Morant is clearly having a fantastic season overall, his scoring efficiency, both from the field and behind the three-point arc, has decreased from the prior year. He is only completing 46.6% of his field goal tries and 31.3% of his three-point efforts.

The grizzlies are the hottest team in the league, in the middle of a nine-game winning streak. Morant led them to the second round of the NBA Playoffs last season, thus they entered the season with high hopes. So far, the Grizzlies have lived up to those expectations and appear to be a real Western Conference contender. The Suns defeated the Grizzlies 125-108 in December (in Tennessee). The Suns saw eight players score in double figures, while Morant led the Grizzlies with 34 points.

With Morant in the lineup, the Grizzlies should extend their winning run to eleven games on Monday night. After all, the Suns have been one of the worst teams in the Western Conference in recent weeks, going 2-8 in their previous 10 games.
