Pro Bowl CB Jalen Ramsey to ‘very likely’ trade from Rams as three-time All Pro responds to rumors

After a successful three-and-a-half-year career with the Los Angeles Rams, cornerback Jalen Ramsey feels ready to go. According to NFL Network, Los Angeles has been in trade negotiations with regard to Ramsey this offseason, and it is highly possible that he will be traded in the coming weeks.

Ramsey has a cap number of $25.2 million for the next season, which means selling him would free up a sizable chunk of budget room for the Rams. Ramsey is owed $17 million in the 2023 season. Ramsey has three years and $74.6 million in cap space left on a five-year, $100 million contract that began in 2021. Trading Ramsey would free up $5.6 million in cap room for the Rams. If Ramsey is on the Rams’ roster for Week 5, he will receive a guaranteed $7.5 million.

The team that signs Ramsey would be significantly hooked for the final year of his contract before making a substantial roster decision involving him for the 2024 season as Ramsey does not have a guaranteed salary for that year.

In 2022, opposing quarterbacks who targeted Ramsey had a passer rating of 74.5 and completed 62.9% of their passes. Ramsey gave up more touchdown passes in one season than he did in his previous two seasons combined. Ramsey hasn’t given up as many receiving yards in a season since giving up 749 with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018.

In seven seasons, Ramsey has had 19 interceptions and has given up 20 pass touchdowns, giving up a career passer rating of 58.2 to opposing quarterbacks who have targeted him. Even though he had a poor season in 2022, the 29-year-old Ramsey has consistently been among the league’s top cover cornerbacks since his debut.

In the upcoming weeks, Ramsey should be in great demand, particularly because the Rams are trying to replace their Super Bowl-winning roster just two seasons ago. In 2023, the Rams have six draft picks, but none are in the first round.
