Real Madrid is a club synonymous with winning trophies and delivering some of the best moments on the pitch. The team that has won the Champions League 14 times is currently leading the league table and on track to win another trophy.
Real Madrid is an elite club with a legacy built by legendary players who brought huge success to the team. However, Real Madrid is more than just trophies and success. It’s a club that prioritizes the values of their stars. One of these instances was recently seen off the field when they demonstrably supported one of their players, who has been getting a lot of hate.
Real Madrid takes legal action to defend Vinicius Jr
Football is a beautiful sport that brings players and fans together, promoting mutual respect. However, the spirit of unity was strained after Madrid star Vinicius Junior faced unacceptable racist abuse from rival fans. In response to such behavior, the club has initiated legal action to get hold of this small section of hateful fans.
According to reports, Real Madrid has complained to Spain’s Attorney General about the racist abuse the Brazilian received. The club said the complaint was filed against a small group of AtlĂ©tico Madrid and Barcelona fans who were seen chanting hate speech against Vinicius ahead of their matches against Inter Milan and Napoli, respectively.
A video was posted on social media where many of the Atlético Madrid fans were seen chanting racist abuse outside the Metropolitano Stadium. A similar instance was also seen outside Montjuic Olympic Stadium ahead of the Barcelona Champions League match against Napoli.
Real Madrid has requested the attorney get hold of those supporters who were seen guilty of chanting hate speech against Vinicius. Through this action, the club has demonstrated once again that they are completely against any hate speech and racial abuse and are always behind their players.
Vinicius Jrâs ongoing battle with racism
The talented Brazilian often get praises for his astonishing play, but his journey to the top has been marred by continuous hate speech. The current incident is not new for Vinicius, as the player has been into a battle with racism for a very long time. Vinicius Jr has faced a lot of hate speeches from the fans and sometimes from players too.
One of the instances was during the Match between Valencia and Real Madrid at Mestella. The Brazilian was seen in a heated verbal exchange with the crowd of the Valencia fans at the 73rd minute. In the same match, the crowd of Valencia fans were chanting racial slurs against Vinicius.
However, there are many other instances where Vinicius Jr. has had to face racial abuse. Such as in February 2023 against Mallorca, where a video of a fan circulated who was seen passing racial slurs against the player. In January 2023, an effigy wearing Vinicius Jr.’s No. 20 shirt was hung from a bridge in front of Real Madrid’s training ground. Vinicius was also subjected to racism in El Classico last year. The Real Madrid star has also been subjected to racism on online platforms many times.
After the Valencia game at Mestella, Vinicius expressed his deep frustration for receiving racial abuse from the Valencia fans and posted on X, âIt was not the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition considers it normal, the federation considers it normal and the rivals encourage it. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi today belongs to the racists.â
Nowadays, racism has become the biggest matter of concern in the football world. Just like Vinicius Jr., many other dark-skinned players have received several hate speeches and racial slurs. Thus, football needs a united front to remove racism. So tell us your views in our comment box on how the league authorities should tackle this problem.
