‘Senseless cowardly act’ Ex-Alabama basketball player Darius Miles taken into custody, charged with capital murder

Darius Miles, 21, is a junior at the university and is from Washington, DC. According to the roster record, Miles was a forward for the Alabama Crimson Tide in his third season when he was dismissed from the squad. According to Tuscaloosa law enforcement, he was arrested and charged with murder in regard to a shooting that took place close to the university of Alabama on Sunday and left a 23-year-old woman dead.

The mother of a 23-year-old Alabama woman who was killed by gunfire in an alleged incident involving two males, including former Crimson Tide basketball star Darius Miles, broke her social media silence about her daughter’s passing.

DeCarla Cotton said on Facebook that Jamea Jonae Harris, who was shot and died, refused to talk to Miles. She posted about the news from WBRC-TV with the caption, “Took my baby life because she wouldn’t talk to him!!!!”

“Darius Miles and his family are heartbroken tonight over the death of Jamea Jonae Harris,” attorney William C. White II said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “While Darius has been accused of being involved with this tragedy, he maintains his innocence and looks forward to his day in court. Our firm’s own investigation is ongoing, and no further statement will be made at this time.”

After it was discovered that Miles was allegedly involved in the shooting, he was suspended from the men’s basketball team. He suffered an ankle injury earlier on Saturday and was ruled out for the remainder of the year.
