Kevin Durant ascended the rankings in the NBA’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Shaquille O’Neal for the eighth position with 22 points in the Phoenix Suns’ 115-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Durant now boasts 28,610 career points in 1048 games, having surpassed several legends on the scoring list this season, including Hakeem Olajuwon and Elvin Hayes.

In the post game press conference, Durant said, “Just grateful to be in the category with some of the greatest, we all know what Shaq meant to the game of basketball. To be up there with him is a major, major honor.”

Shaquille O’Neal issue bold challenge to Kevin Durant

Former Lakers Superstar and Hall of Famer Shaquille O’ Neal replied to KD on his show NBA on TNT and acknowledged Durant’s massive accomplishment with a heartfelt message.

Shaq said, “First of all, I wanna say congratulations for passing me to become eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Well deserved. You know it doesn’t stop here. I probably see you at, see if you can get to number one. Job well done. I knew it was gonna get done. If anybody was gonna pass me, it was definitely gonna be you. Durantula!”

Kevin Durant still has a long way to go if he wants to be the number one in all-time scoring list as Lebron James, who broke the record last season still sits at the top with more than 40000 points. Kareem Abdul Jabbar occupies the number 2 spot, followed by Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki and Wilt Chamberlain.

Although, KD definitely looks like he is not slowing down any time soon and will continue to rise up the rankings. Where do you think KD will end up in the all-time scoring list? Feel free to let us know in the comment section below!
