Summer transfer window 2022: when does it open and close?

The time for big moves, transfer rumors, and deals is upon the football world! Because it is the long-awaited transfer season! The biggest clubs in Europe are making moves to bolster their ranks and gear up for the long 22/23 season ahead.

Players such as the emphatic Norweigian Erling Haaland and La Celeste ace Darwin Nunez are ready to terrorize Premier League defenses while Real Madrid veteran Marcelo empties his locker at the Bernabéu. All this and much more to come as the doors open for all major European leagues!

When does the summer transfer window open?

The transfer windows for all European leagues usually stay open for 2 to 2.5 months. All clubs must finish their signings and deals within that time frame or risk a fallout much like the infamous failed David De Gea to Real Madrid deal.

Here are opening dates for the Summer transfer window.

Premier League:  The English Premier League transfer window opened on Friday 10 June 2022.

La Liga: Spain’s top league, La Liga’s transfer window opened on Friday 10 June 2022.

Serie A: The transfer window in Italy’s Serie A opened on Friday 10 June 2022.

Bundesliga: Bundesliga clubs were able to conduct their transfers from 10 June 2022.

Ligue 1: The French League, Ligue 1’s transfer window opened on Friday 10 June 2022.

When does the summer transfer window close?

As all transfers must be finished within the closing day. Here are the cutoff dates for clubs to get their deals done.

Premier League: The Premier League transfer window will officially close on the 1st day of September at 11 pm BST. 

La Liga: La Liga’s transfer window will close on the same day as England, September 1 at 22:59 GMT.

Serie A: Italy’s Serie A transfer window closes on Thursday the 1st of September.

Bundesliga: Bundesliga clubs won’t be able to conduct their transfers after September 1, 2022.

Ligue 1: Ligue 1’s transfer window closes on Thursday 1 September at 23:59 GMT.

When do the 2022/23 Major European League seasons begin?

The major factor for the European leagues in the 22/23 season will be the FIFA world cup in November of 2022. The leagues will have to pause their proceedings in the middle of winter to accommodate the global tournament. With this setback in mind, let us observe the start dates of each major European league:

Premier League: The Premier League campaign for the 22/23 season will start on the 6th of August.

La Liga: Keeping in line with England, Spain will adjust the starting date for La Liga around 6th August.

Serie A: Serie A will start the season on the 6th of August.

Bundesliga: Bundesliga will begin on the 6th of August

Ligue 1: The French league usually starts a week after all other leagues, they will continue that tradition and start on the 13th of August.

When do the 2022/23 Major European League seasons end?

The major leagues will go on hiatus during the second week of November and resume a week after the World Cup final. This means the seasons for each league will end later than the usual time.

Premier League: The Premier League campaign will end on the 28th of May, 2023.

La Liga: Spain will adjust the starting date for La Liga due to the world cup and end on the 28th of May, 2023.

Serie A: Serie A 22/23 will end on the 28th of May, 2023.

Bundesliga: Bundesliga will end on the 28th of May 2023 as well.

Ligue 1: The French league will end on 3rd June 2023.

When do the fixtures come out?

The fixtures for the major European Leagues will be revealed on 16th June 2022.

Can clubs do deals after the deadline?

No European club can strike deals or complete transfers after the deadline day is over. If a deal sheet is submitted before the deadline day is over, only then can a transfer go on. Otherwise once the deadline is reached, only free agents can be approached for transfer by the European clubs.
