When will Anthony Martial return to Manchester United following successful groin surgery?

Manchester United have been suffering from an injury crisis this season, with many important first-team players out injured. It has disrupted the system under Erik ten Hag and has resulted in below-par performances by the team in both the Premier League and Champions League. One of those players who has been out injured for a long time is French international Anthony Martial.

The Red Devils have suffered in goal scoring department and the absence of Martial from the squad has not helped them either. But it seems like Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag might have to wait more to be able to count on the Frenchmen after his successful groin surgery.

When will Anthony Martial return from injury?

Initially, some sources confirmed that the French striker underwent successful surgery over a groin injury yesterday and will be out for rehabilitation and rest. Hours later, Manchester United’s official Twitter handle shared a message stating the obvious and wishing the Frenchmen a speedy recovery, as they were looking forward to his return.

Neither of the reports claimed to share the minute details of the surgery and rehabilitation process, but minutes later, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to share the details of the surgery.

He expressed that Anthony Martial has completed successful surgery for the groin injury and will probably be out for the next 10 weeks.

“Anthony Martial has completed surgery to address a groin complaint. Martial will be out of action for 10 weeks.”

He also clarified about the future of the former Sevilla player, confirming that the striker is thinking of leaving the club as a free agent at the end of his contract in six months this summer.

“French striker will stay at Man United until the end of the season and then leave the club as free agent in June.”

Anthony Martial expected to leave Manchester United next season

The former Monaco player is believed to be set to leave at the end of the current season as a free agent since their have been no contacts with the club over a new contract deal. Even though the Frenchman has not been a starter since the arrival of Dutch manager Erik ten Hag, it certainly can play out to be a huge loss for the Red Devils as they have been struggling to score goals despite the big money signing of Rasmus Højlund and many times, it was Martial who used to come off the bench to provide that decisive strike that won them matches.

Anthony Martial signed for Manchester United from Monaco in the 2015-16 season in the hopes of something big. The club management wanted to replicate the signing of a young CR7 and chose Anthony Martial as the candidate since they hoped that the Frenchmen would explode after joining them and they would get their new CR7 on board. But what happened in the subsequent years was far from that.

Since the first season itself, the striker has been plagued with injuries and he has missed more than 80 matches for the club in the last eight seasons. It wasn’t as if the striker was not performing at a decent level but he never managed to become a fan favorite due to his recurring injuries and over-expectations of matching the CR7’s legacy at the club. He did manage to score 90 goals and provide 55 assists, which isn’t bad at all considering the number of matches he missed due to numerous injuries.

Anthony Martial is certain to leave Manchester United more than stay after the end of the current season and it would be interesting to see what kind of teams try to sign up the free agent player since there are glimpses of a decent player who just needs a bit of time and less expectations hovering over his head to shine.
