2 years after leaving Browns, Baker Mayfield sets the record straight about his Odell Beckham Jr. rift

In 2020, the Cleveland Browns were performing well with Baker Mayfield as their quarterback and Odell Beckham Jr. as their wide receiver. At that time, the quarterback had great compatibility with the wide receiver but Becham got injured and couldn’t play in the 2020 season. Mayfield still managed to handle the team very well but his on-field relationship with ODJ eventually deteriorated.

The very next year, Mayfield got a shoulder injury and the Browns ultimately released him. Two years after that, the QB has addressed his exit from the Browns and his relationship with Odell Beckham Jr.

Baker Mayfield reveals relationship with ODJ

Baker Mayfield, who replaced the legendary Tom Brady at the Bucs, appeared on the Pat McAfee Show where he was asked about his relationship with Beckham to which he said that they are good now.

“We’re good now, and that’s part of being grown as a person.”

He mentioned personal growth and the absence of grudges in their renewed relationship. “I think normally I would hold a lot of grudges, but no, we’re good. We’ve squashed that.”

Baker Mayfield and ODJ were a famous quarterback-receiver duo in the NFL. They had great on-field compatibility but gradually their on-field connection became problematic.

In games, it was noticed that Mayfield gets confused in the field and used to avoid ODJ. He used to pass the ball to other receivers instead of him. Their strained on-field relationship eventually affected their off-field relationship.

Over the next two seasons, they both tried to improve their on-field connection. They spent time practicing together, traveled together, and even played video games to strengthen their bond.

Despite their efforts, their on-field compatibility declined. After that, in 2021 Mayfield was released from the Browns because of a shoulder injury. Mayfield had not spoken with Beckham but now he has shared that they are good now.

Becham is with the Baltimore Ravens now and Baker Mayfield is the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While there is no chance right now for them to become a famous quarterback-receiver duo again, fans are happy to find out they have sorted out their issues.

Buccaneers QB addresses his Browns exit

Baker Mayfield played a pivotal role in ending the Browns’ 17-year playoff win drought in 2020. But in 2021 injuries limited his performance, leading to his departure from the Browns.

The quarterback has recently talked about this matter, expressing his confusion about the situation but believing that everything happens for a reason.

“I think I’m still confused too,” the quarterback replied when asked about his departure from the Browns.

He said that after the surgery he got healthy and he was preparing for a comeback but the team decided to release him.

“I was excited to get surgery, get healthy and get back to my 2020 form but that wasn’t their plan. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.”

After leaving Browns the quarterback played for the Panthers and Rams and now he’s the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although departure from the Browns was quite difficult for Baker Mayfield, he’s over that time now and he’s happy with where he’s today.
