Prior to the Everton clash, Liverpool didn’t win a single game in 2023 surely summarized Jurgen Klopp’s men and the Kop felt the heat after continuous woeful performances.
Ahead of the Merseyside derby, the Liverpool skipper used his program notes to hit out at the backlashes and urged the critics to stay within their limits as the players know their responsibilities.
“Recent results – and our form over the season in general – means we have to accept a lot of the criticism that has come our way. This is the price on the ticket when you sign for a big club and there aren’t many that are as big as this one,” he wrote in his program notes.

“As players we know what our responsibilities are and what the expectations on us will be, so when standards do drop we know there will be no shortage of people wanting to point out where we are going wrong.”- he further added.
“Again, no problem – this goes with the territory. There is one criticism that I will never allow being leveled at this group of players, though, and that is that they’re not giving their all or that their desire isn’t as strong as it was previously.”- the Liverpool captain concluded.
Jordan Henderson has been with the Liverpool squad since 2011 after his arrival from Sunderland and was named captain in 2015, following the departure of previous captain and legend Steven Gerrard.
