AEW Full Gear: Christian Cage exacts revenge on Ric Flair, 3 years after epic betrayal on WWE television

Sting, Darby Allin, and Adam Copeland went up against Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, and Luchasaurus of AEW TNT at AEW Full Gear. Ric Flair, who debuted on Dynamite, was at ringside for the match. Cage and Flair came into conflict during the event, as Cage responded to a 2020 attack on Flair by giving him a thumb to the eye and delivering a low blow.

When Sting announced his retirement at AEW Revolution 2024 in March, Tony Khan gave “Flair” to him as a parting present. At AEW Full Gear, the audience gave Flair a warm welcome upon his comeback this year in honor of Sting’s retirement. In the meeting with Cage, people noted that Cage hadn’t forgotten the events from three years previously.

Christian gets his revenge on Ric Flair

On a 2020 episode of Monday Night Raw, a now-villainous Ric Flair interfered in a comeback bout featuring Christian. With the promise of “One More Match,” Orton dared Christian to fight outside of the rules. Even though Flair attempted to discourage Christian from accepting the bout, he ultimately agreed. Christian insisted anyway, so Flair gave him a low blow during the match.

The argument between Ric Flair and Christian Cage at the most recent AEW event brought back memories of the incident in 2020. The audience watched the same thing to happen again. Sting, Darby Allin, and Adam Copeland faced off against Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne in the first 6-man tag match of the PPV.

Christian, being a heel, avoided Adam as much as possible. At ringside, Ric Flair and Christian got into an argument when Flair sided with Sting. After some heated words, the situation escalated into a physical fight. Christian countered with a similar low blow, sending Flair reeling on the floor.

Ric Flair opens up on his “disease”

Ric Flair has been in the wrestling business for decades, but he just inked a multiyear contract with AEW, signaling he is not yet done with the sport. Returning to wrestling TV, Flair revealed with Rich Eisen how he instantly felt the camaraderie he missed.

On the October 25, “Dynamite” episode, AEW CEO Tony Khan surprised Sting with the news of Flair’s joining. Sting’s last bout will be at the 2024 AEW Revolution PPV, which Flair will attend with him. During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Flair discussed his reluctance to retire from the industry.

The Nature Boy said, “I’ve found it again here. The day I walked in here, it’s the camaraderie. I just love being with the guys. It’s almost like a disease to me. I just like being with the guys and I like going on in front of a live audience.”
