After making immediate impact in Barcelona debut, ex-Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix throws subtle dig at Diego Simeone

Joao Felix, the new Barcelona forward, netted his first goal to mark his arrival in a home game against Real Betis. The 23-year-old Portuguese forward joined the Blaugranas on a loan move from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day after an unsuccessful loan spell with Chelsea and has been impactful right away.

Joao Felix already made his debut for FC Barcelona when he came as a sub against Osasuna. On his return from international duty, he was handed his first start by Xavi. Following their 5-0 win, Felix took a jab at his former manager, Diego Simeone.

Felix fires shots at Atletico Madrid after impressive Barcelona home debut

Last season, after losing favour with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, Felix moved to London and spent half of the season at Chelsea. Unfortunately, the Portuguese attacker couldn’t impress the Blues with a permanent offer, as he managed just four goals in 16 Premier League appearances.

On his return to Madrid, Felix expressed his interest in representing the Catalan club Barcelona and called it his childhood dream.

Joao Felix said, “Barcelona has always been my first choice, and I’d love to join Barça. It has always been my dream, If it happens, it will be a dream come true for me.”

And, now following yesterday’s debut in Barcelona colours, the Portuguese threw a subtle dig at Simeone, saying: “It’s easy to play on this team. I’m very happy to play as a starter again after being frozen out at the Metropolitano”.

He added further saying, “I am working to be at the best level. There is a very good environment here, I am one more to help and with these players, everything is easier,” while speaking to Movistar.

Joao Felix shines in debut after late Barcelona transfer

Felix had an impressive debut, showcasing his lively performance in his first start for Blaugrana alongside Lewandowski and Ferran Torres upfront. And, It didn’t take him any longer than 25 minutes to find the back of the net for FC Barcelona.

In 2019, the Portuguese youngster made a €126 million move from SL Benfica to Atletico Madrid on a seven-year deal, becoming the club’s most expensive signing in history. Joao Felix also extended his contract with Atletico until 2029, a move made to facilitate a feasible loan to Barcelona. Overall, the 23-year-old managed to score only 34 goals in a total of 131 appearances for Atletico Madrid under the management of Diego Simeone.
