Alisson Injury Update: Jurgen Klopp provides update on Liverpool GK’s return

Alisson Becker, known for his excellent reflexes and saves in front of the goal, is Liverpool Football Club’s first-choice goalkeeper. The 31-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper is considered one of the best goalkeepers to ever represent the Scousers.

Becker has been with Liverpool since 2018 and has made a total of 194 appearances for the club. The Brazilian is considered one of the leaders in the squad. However, in recent years, Becker has been very unlucky with injuries. He was last seen playing for the club in their Premier League tie where they faced a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp provides update on Alisson’s injury

Alisson’s injury was first confirmed by Jurgen Klopp on 17 February when Klopp stated, “Alisson had suffered a muscle injury in training.” He added, “Alisson will go through tests on Saturday to clarify how serious the injury is or how long he will be out, in the next 1/2 days we will know more.”

Later, on 2 March 2024, Klopp provided further information about his injury, saying, “Alisson has suffered a serious injury, not a short one.” He further added, “It is a rather serious one, but not a season-ending injury.”

This was another blow to Liverpool and Klopp in his last season with the club. With Alisson, a few other players are suffering from injuries as well. Stars like Diogo Jota, Cuties Jones, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are still on the treatment table and yet to be recovered.

However, Alisson’s injury has not had an impact on Liverpool’s overall team performance, courtesy of Caoimhin Kelleher, who had performed one of his best performances of the season against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup Final and helped them to win it without their Egyptian maestro Mohammad Salah.

When will Alisson return from injury

The return of Alisson Becker is still unknown. However, Klopp has confirmed in a press conference as they face Nottingham Forest, stating, “There is no timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury. It is not a short one.”

However, Klopp believes that Alisson still has a part to play before the season ends, as his injury is a serious hamstring injury but not a season-ending one. With just a few months left for the season to end, will we see Alisson Becker back in matchday squads, as Liverpool is currently sitting as table-toppers of the league and eyeing for another Premier League title.
