Andy Ruiz Jr. drops hint at upcoming Tyson Fury July UK showdown, sending fans into frenzy

Tyson Fury vs Andy Ruiz seems to be happening earlier then many expected. Although Fury hasn’t given any official details for the bout yet his possible opponent Ruiz has teased some very big news. In an Instagram story, Ruiz wrote “It’s official: Tyson Fury vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. July 22nd,” with an emoji of the British flag next to it.

Although Fury recently gave hints for a “monster fight” via a social media post, it seems like fans will have to hold their excitement a bit further to see their favorite heavyweight make a comeback in the squared ring as the fight against Ruiz is yet be be fully official.

In their three-fight series in December of last year, the 34-year-old defeated Dereck Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The discussions between Fury and his camp to take against Ukrainian warrior Oleksandr Usyk broke down as a result of back-and-forth accusations from both parties.

Ruiz, who stunned the boxing world a few years ago by stopping Anthony Joshua in the seventh round in New York, hasn’t actively competed since recording his biggest career victory.

The Mexican-American heavyweight lost the rematch the same year, and he didn’t compete again until May 2021, when he defeated Chris Arreola. After 16 months, he fought again and won on points over Luis Ortiz and now looks to be next in line for the ‘Gypsy King’.

Tyson Fury vs Andy Ruiz match-up

Even though Fury might come out as a big favorite for this fight, he still needs to get the job done. Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) desperately  needs to get his hand raised in order to potentially face either Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk, the champion of the IBF, WBA, and WBO, in December that will most probably take place in Saudi Arabia.

Andy Ruiz vs Tyson Fury

Ruiz’s strength, speed, and combo punching style could cause Fury serious problems. Ruiz has massively built legs that could hold Fury’s weight if he tried to lean on him as part of his favorite leaning strategy that he has developed since teaming up with Sugar Hill Steward.

Even though Ruiz comes across as a massive underdog to defeat the ‘Gypsy King’, he has shown incredible heart and skills in the last few years to get to this position and if somehow the Mexican is able to make history by defeating one of the greatest heavyweight boxers to grace the ring, his career will likely see a huge bump.
