Bayern Munich has dominated German football, creating records in the UEFA Champions League. They have won their last 17 fixtures in the Champions League group stage, extending the unbeaten run to 38 matches in this phase.
This season, after the appointment of new manager Thomas Tuchel, the German giants have shown inconsistent form, struggling in many matches. The club’s injury crisis doesn’t help the situation, and recent injuries seem to be piling up.
Thomas Tuchel provides update on injured Bayern Munich stars
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel inherited a talented side from former manager Nagelsmann and would have been excited about the prospect of the future. However, recent injuries have hampered their progress.
Sources report that the manager has confirmed injuries to midfielder Konrad Laimer, recently signed from RB Leipzig, and center-back Dayet Upamecano. These injuries have come at a time when they are set to play in the Round of 16 Champions League tie in the coming weeks.
The French centre-back was signed in the year 2021 from RB Leipzig for âŹ60.00 million. He has been doing consistently well for Tuchel that the manager has been forced to keep star defender Matthijs de Ligt on the bench. The pair of Kim-Upamecano at the back has been much appreciated by the manager. The Bundesliga side is surely gonna miss his presence at the last line of defense since he has been rock-solid this season.
Konrad Laimer was signed in last summer from RB Leipzig for âŹ28.00 million to bolster the German’s club midfield. Since his arrival, the former RB Salzburg starlet has been deployed at both the centre-mid and right-back areas by the manager which just shows his versatility.
The Austrian has just entered into his prime of the career and has been playing continuously for the German Club with already getting 27 matches under his belt in which he has also scored 1 and provided 2 assists in all competitions. His injury was also be a disheartening news for the club.
Bayern Munichâs struggles with multiple injuries this season
Bayern Munich have always been known for dominating the Bundesliga with no rival club even close to them in any season. However, this season, the story has been different with the club Bayer Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso, who are really on their career high-time currently playing destructive football and being in 1st place in the Bundesliga, 4 points ahead of Bayern.
Bayern’s injury crisis has played a really bigger part in this and doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon. Even in the starting of the season, the German goalkeeper Manuel Nuer was injured and missed many matches which lost him the national team 1st goalkeeper spot to ter Stegen. Although the German goalkeeper has returned from the injury lay-off, the new injuries are disrupting the club’s performances.
Currently, 7 out of the 26 squad players are out injured, with talented names like Mazraoui, Bouna Sarr, and Serge Gnabry included in the injury list. The addition of these two to the list makes the team much weaker. Even though the club has not denied any transfer moves, it seems desperately unlikely, considering there is only a week left in this winter window.
It would be interesting to see how the manager manages with increasing injuries and how deep the team is able to go to in the all-important Champions League. Let us know your comments below.
