Bears add to the Sewell family legacy by picking LB Noah Sewell in 2023 NFL Draft

The Chicago Bears had to digest 10 consecutive losses last season as well as the worst record in the NFL, setting a franchise mark for losses with 3-14 in their first season under GM Ryan Poles and coach Matt Eberflus.

However, the Bears fans can somehow feel at ease as the franchise made some major offseason moves, starting with Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright at No. 10 overall during Thursday’s first round, they added 10 players throughout the draft’s seven rounds.

The Chicago Bears selected linebacker Noah Sewell to bolster their defense

The Bears were sticking to their best player available philosophy by selecting Oregon linebacker Noah Sewell with the 148th pick in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft on Saturday.

Noah Sewell

With the pick of Noah in this year’s draft, the third member of the Sewell family has officially gone professional following his elder brother Penei being drafted by the Lions with the No. 7 overall pick in 2021, and Nephi going undrafted last year and finding a new destination with the Saints later.

Noah played in 33 games for the Ducks (31 starts in three seasons) and recorded 215 career tackles, 19.5 tackles-for-loss, 7.5 sacks, 11 passes defended, three forced fumbles as well as two interceptions.

The Orem High School alum was the consensus No. 1 player in Utah and led his football team to the Utah 5A State Championship, grabbing the 2019 Utah Valley Football Player of the Year. The 6-2, 253-pounder got selected to the Pac-12 All-Conference second team by coaches in 2022 as well.

Bears scout Reese Hicks raved about the five-star recruit at Halas Hall on Saturday citing his versatility and athleticism following the draft.

“He’s a good blitzer. Really had a good arsenal of moves. Something that I think may not be as common among linebackers; usually, you see that around edge players more than interior linebackers, but he’s got a good arsenal, rushes hard to the ball, good close. So, that adds an element I think we can utilize”, Hicks stated.

Noah Sewell

With his talent and determination, Noah looks poised to add his own chapter to the Sewell family legacy in the NFL. The Bears fans will surely be eager to see him in action on the field.
