The McDonald’s All-American Dunk Contest has long been a platform for aspiring basketball stars to showcase their prowess. This year, a familiar name was in the spotlight, stirring memories of a legendary athlete who once graced the same stage. The stage was set for Bronny James to follow in the footsteps of his father, LeBron James, who had won the event twenty years ago and Bronny’s dunk over his brother Bryce certainly gave fans a moment of Deja Vu.

Bronny, 18, and his brother Bryce, 15, participated in the renowned skills competition on Monday night. The 6-foot-3 NBA prospect and Sierra Canyon hotshot seized the moment to impress the crowd and channel his father’s legendary moves. In the championship round, Bronny called on Bryce, who stands at an impressive 6-foot-5, to assist him in his stunning dunk.

After a few attempts, Bronny successfully dunked over Bryce, earning a score of 63/70 from the judges. Despite losing the final to Duke forward Sean Stewart, LeBron James, the proud father, expressed his admiration and awe on Instagram, posting a picture of the dunk and exclaiming, “That’s INSANE!!! Though LeBron was unable to attend the event at the Delmar Athletic Complex in Houston, Texas, his wife Savannah proudly supported their son, holding up a ’10’ scorecard for his dunks. Bronny advanced to the finals with scores of 65/70 and 57/70 in the preceding rounds.

Bronny James: What’s next for the young basketball prodigy?

Recently named a five-star college recruit, Bronny played his last high school basketball game earlier this month. As he prepares for life beyond high school, he has yet to announce his college choice, but Ohio State is currently the frontrunner to sign him for the 2023 college basketball season.

With two years to go before he could potentially make his NBA debut, the possibility of Bronny teaming up with his father is becoming more realistic. LeBron has expressed his desire to play with his son multiple times, fueling speculation of a potential father-son duo on the court.

In the meantime, the young phenom continued to hone his skills and garner attention as he took part in the McDonald’s All-American game. The world watches with anticipation as Bronny James carries the family’s legacy, poised to carve his own path in the world of basketball.
