“It’s going to be a war”: Jose Benavidez Sr urges Canelo Alvarez for showdown with The Mexican Monster

According to Jose Benavidez Sr., Canelo Alvarez is no longer at the top, and his son David Benavidez is now poised to take over. For David (26-0, 23 KOs) to solidify his position as the top boxer at 168. He needs to defeat Caleb Plant on Saturday night and then beat Canelo.

Although Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) is willing to fight him, defeating him is considered to be the easier part of the equation.

Saturday’s fight between Benavidez and Plant on Showtime PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas displays Plant’s bravery. However, it’s disappointing that Canelo isn’t willing to face the same challenge. Despite this, it’s beyond Benavidez’s control to persuade Canelo to agree to a fight.

Canelo’s schedule is already set for the rest of the year. With fights against John Ryder on May 6th and Dmitry Bivol in September. So, it’s unlikely that the winner of the Benavidez-Plant fight will have the opportunity to face him until next year. Depending on the outcome of Canelo’s rematch with Bivol in September.

Canelo Alvarez Vs David Benavidez: Potential Super Match?

Jose Benavidez Sr has expressed his desire for Canelo Alvarez to face his son David Benavidez, who is the mandatory challenger for Canelo’s WBC super middleweight title.

However, it has been confirmed that Canelo will have a rematch with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in September. Despite this, Jose Sr says it’s ultimately up to Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) to decide whether to defend his title against David or risk getting stripped by the World Boxing Council.

“We’re not worried about that. If it happens, it happens. We would love to fight Canelo. He’s the best at 168,” said Jose Benavidez Sr.

“If he doesn’t want to make that fight, there’s nothing we can do about it. David is the mandatory. If he doesn’t fight David, it’s for real. If he doesn’t fight David, they’re going to strip him out of his [WBC 168-lb] belt.”

“Benavidez Sr said about Canelo potentially getting stripped by the World Boxing Council if he fails to defend against his WBC mandatory Benavidez. “If he wants to go out that way, leaving the belts and being stripped. If Eddie Hearn says David hasn’t fought anybody and that David is not to that level, then why not do the fight then?”
