Chelsea offers ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique opportunity to meet with club chiefs for managerial role

Chelsea has allegedly invited Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique to ‘present their ideas’ to club executives this week, as part of their hunt for a new permanent manager.

Chelsea had to fire English coach Graham Potter in April after only six months of managing the club. German coach Nagelsmann was recently fired as head coach of Bayern Munich and was quickly replaced by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. His availability in the market has piqued the interest of a number of big teams in Europe, including Todd Boehly’s Chelsea, which is looking for a new manager.

Meanwhile, Enrique lost the Spain job after a poor World Cup campaign. He is also said to be on the list of many clubs.

Currently, Chelsea has appointed former player and coach Frank Lampard as caretaker manager until the end of the season. They are now contemplating appointing either Nagelsmann or Enrique in the summer as the permanent manager.

According to the German news agency BILD, Nagelsmann has been invited to personally introduce himself. He will be allowed to express his ideas to the Chelsea executives. Luis Enrique was granted the same opportunity a little over a week ago and is said to have made a positive impression.

There have also been reports that the Blues are arranging an ‘imminent deal’ with the Spaniard but will first meet with Nagelsmann. Despite his recent departure from Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich, there is much confidence that the German coach will be the ideal man to lead the Blues to glory.

Julian Nagelsmann: The ‘ideal’ manager for Chelsea?

According to the same source, Nagelsmann will not be alone if he decides to relocate to West London. This is due to the arrival of Christopher Vivell last year. The Blues revealed Vivell’s hiring as their new technical director in December.

Vivell had worked at RB Leipzig in the club’s recruitment and scouting divisions. He then departed in October to become an advisor at Stamford Bridge. And Nagelsmann is connected to the 36-year-old, having previously spent time together at the German club Hoffenheim before reuniting at RB Leipzig from 2019 to 2021.

Chelsea has already communicated with Nagelsmann through agents to discover more about his plans following his expulsion from Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old is eager to learn more about the club, its structure, and the kind of impact he will have. He is not expected to rush back to management and is said to be assessing his options.

Who else is on Chelsea’s watchlist?

Chelsea is reportedly willing to examine up to seven contenders before narrowing the field. The hiring process will be overseen by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart. Fulham manager Marco Silva and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino are also in the running.

In addition to Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner, Zinedine Zidane, and Brendan Rodgers are being considered. Jose Mourinho, who won three Premier League championships in two stints in West London, may possibly make a spectacular return.

It remains to be seen who becomes the next Chelsea manager. Chelsea will now face Brighton at home on Saturday. They will then face Real Madrid on Wednesday in the second leg of their UCL quarter final clash.
