Cowboys WR Antonio Callaway’s arrest for driving with suspended license raises concern for team ahead of 2023 NFL season

The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Antonio Callaway has always had a career full of ups and downs, with multiple suspensions to his name, and his most recent incident is one of the lowest points of his career with Antonio getting arrested!

Before even beginning his NFL career, Callaway encountered the omen of suspension at the University of Florida, which ended as he was suspended amid sexual assault accusations. He missed the entirety of spring practice prior to UF adapting his suspension though later the authority found him not liable for the claim.

Now after signing with the Cowboys in November, the team is concerned with his availability due to his recent arrest.

Why was Antonio Callaway arrested?

After being pulled over for allegedly driving with a suspended license and failing to pay, Antonio was reportedly arrested Saturday in Miami. His first suspension in the NFL came while he was playing for the Browns. Due to his violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, he was benched for the first four games of that season.

The wide receiver was also discovered to have several other issues, such as testing positive for marijuana at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, receiving a ticket for marijuana possession while operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and having bullets and a gun part discovered by police while searching his vehicle.

How long has Callaway played in the NFL?

Callaway began his NFL career with the Browns in 2018 as the No. 105 overall pick, spending one season with the team. After that, the wide receiver was added to the Miami Dolphins roster, and in 2020, he made an appearance in Miami, catching two passes for a total of 20 yards.

Although the 26-year-old hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020 and wasn’t given a promotion during the regular season, Dallas later signed him to a future contract to the practice squad, where he didn’t appear in a single game.

The Cowboys wanted to strengthen their receiver room and give AC a fresh start in the NFL due to his lack of success so far, however, his luck hasn’t been on his side this time either. Now the future of him is in question with the teams’ roster ahead of the regular season.

Can Antonio get released in time before the season starts? Time will tell. Till then stay tuned for more exciting updates!
