Fans claim Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are “best duo in football” after breaking another record

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe were once again the heroes for Paris Saint Germain as they beat Lens 3-1 with both of them scoring. Midfielder Vitinha was also on the scoresheet.

Kylian Mbappe also broke another record as he has overtaken Edinson Cavani as the all-time highest scorer in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint Germain. Lionel Messi also equalized Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most league goals in Europe’s top five leagues with his 495th goal.

Lionel Messi now has 15 goals and 14 assists for PSG in Ligue 1 this season while Mbappe has 20 goals and 4 assists.

When they play together, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are a delight to watch. They have frequently combined this season at Paris Saint-Germain to deadly effect. Usually, Messi initiates the assist, while Mbappe is charged with deftly completing the play. Though Mbappe also helps Messi score from time to time.

Fans have taken to social media to claim that Messi and Mbappe are the “best duo in football,” and their impressive performances have put PSG on course for a successful season.

The goals helped secure a key victory for Paris St-Germain in a top of the league table clash against Lens. Lens was down to 10 men after midfielder Salis Abdul Samed was sent off barely 19 minutes into the game.

After receiving a pass from midfielder Vitinha, Mbappe swiftly twisted before scoring his league-high 20th goal of the year in the 31st minute with a first-time shot into the bottom right corner. Six minutes later, Vitinha doubled the advantage with a 25-yard shot into the same corner.

The Argentine captain Messi then teamed up with Mbappe in the 40th minute. He passed the ball to Mbappe who backheeled the ball back to him for a low shot. Messi then scored his fifteenth league goal of the season. Len’s Przemyslaw Frankowski scored their only goal through a penalty.

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe future

Messi has decided to quit PSG this summer, according to French outlet Foot Mercato (via PSG Talk). According to reports, Messi and his family have decided to leave the French city and are unlikely to change their views. Their preferred club is thought to be Barcelona and the player himself decided it after Barcelona contacted him.

Messi adamant 'there's no problem' with Mbappe following World Cup final

Meanwhile, Mbappe is being sensationally linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer. He previously rejected a chance to join them in the last summer transfer window.

What next for PSG?

Second-placed Lens produced many opportunities despite being down 3-0 at the half, but they were unable to take advantage of them, allowing PSG to move closer to winning the league championship again.

With only seven games left, the defending champions are already nine points in front. This makes them quite certain to win their 11th league title, breaking the previous French record.

Manager Christophe Galtier spoke after the game, “We must not think that it’s done and dusted. We will need to remain serious and determined to maintain our lead and not give any hope to the teams chasing us.”

PSG will now face Angers at their stadium on Saturday to continue their title race.
