Former Lakers star Matt Barnes hails Giannis Antetokounmpo while taking subtle dig at Anthony Davis saying AD lacks mental grit

The Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo and Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis might produce similar kinds of dominant influence on the court, but NBA analyst Matt Barnes thinks there’s a distinctive lack of quality in the Lakers’ star.

We are all familiar with the term ‘wasted talent,’ and the NBA is one of the unfortunate platforms where we see it happen occasionally. There are a few athletes who have burned out due to a lack of certain factors such as professionalism, hard work, or mental preparedness.

In a recent interview, Matt shared his perception of these two stars, saying that he praised Giannis but didn’t leave the other without pinching him.

What did Matt Barnes say?

In a podcast with Lamar Odom, the 43-year-old hailed the Lakers’ center as being more talented than the Bucks’ power forward. “I believe Anthony Davis is more skilled than Giannis, but Giannis has a different motor and mindset,” he said.

“If AD had Giannis’ mindset, he would be the best player ever created. We’re talking pure talent; name someone who has more talent than Anthony Davis,” the former small forward explained.

We might take the statement from two different perspectives, where he thinks Davis is better than Antetokounmpo. We feel reluctant to enter the comparison, but in the context of skill and talent, the 30-year-old is one of the best in the league right now.

We also have to agree with the 6.10-foot center’s lack of intensity and hunger to win the game continuously. Anthony has demonstrated a somewhat arrogant attitude when it comes to the question of his dedication and willingness.

On the other hand, the Greek freak is popular for his passion for the games and his simple mindset, which focuses on nothing but victory, even if he gets one. He was always eyeing the next achievement, which made him one of the most consistent athletes for the last several years.
