Former Premier League winner with Manchester United blasts Anthony Martial in ruthless rant

Manchester United is not in a good spot at the moment. Having lost two games so early in the season, the team is somewhat demotivated. Winger Antony being recently suspended from the team due to an ongoing investigation of abuse isn’t helping either.

It is at this time that another player of the club has received another bashing, this time from one of their own legendary players. Anthony Martial is the victim this time, and he has been criticized by ex-Manchester United forward Andy Cole.

Andy Cole rips Anthony Martial

Andy Cole is known as a legendary forward of the Red Devils, who played six years with them from 1995 to 2001. He is known for being part of the legendary 1999 treble-winning team. He ended up scoring 121 goals in 275 appearances, even winning the Premier League Golden Boot Award and is considered one of the club’s best-ever forwards.

In an interview with BetFred, the treble-winning forward was asked whether he believed Martial should be benched or not. The former striker did not hold back in his opinion, saying, “Martial has been at Manchester United for 8 years now and he hasn’t even scored 100 goals. It’s incredible. He is a centre-forward at Manchester United and he has played in some fantastic teams. His best performance in the league was 17 goals.”

In short, he said that Martial has had enough opportunities: “He’s had more than enough time and opportunity to show United just how good he is and he unfortunately hasn’t been able to do so.”

Anthony Martial’s goal-scoring record for Man Utd

Indeed, Anthony Martial has not lived up to the lofty expectations that fans had when the Frenchman arrived in 2015. He was brought in a fee of ÂŁ44million from Monaco and was even thought to be a future Balon d’Or winner.

Cole did have a point in noting Martial’s poor goal-scoring record. Having scored just 88 goals in 301 appearances over 8 years, many feel that the 27-year-old has not returned what was expected of him.

Martial has had five managers since joining, and none of them have managed to bring the best out of him. In fact, Jose Mourinho even criticized him publicly numerous times. Furthermore, injuries have plagued his career, which has seen him on the sidelines most of the time. He has only had two good seasons, his debut season in 2015 where he scored 11 goals, and the 2019-20 season where he scored 17 goals, his personal best.

Manager Erik Ten Haag has said he trusts in the player, but fans have become impatient with the striker. Now that the team has brought in Rasmus Højlund to be the main attacking force, Anthony Martial may finally leave the club. One thing’s for sure, Andy Cole will definitely be happy to see him leave.
